Pier Five.

The industrial aesthetic is everywhere these days, but for our client, Shepherd Neame, we wanted to go a step further. Their brief was to create a fresh approach to the bar and kitchen concept — something that balanced Scandinavian simplicity and functionality with the unique maritime character of Chatham Marina. The result is what we call industrial–Swedish–maritime design: clean lines and honest materials softened by warmth and texture, all set against the backdrop of the dockside.

Pier Five offers a wide range of hand-crafted beers, lagers, craft spirits and artisan coffees, alongside a full kitchen serving everything from flame-licked chicken to hand-stretched, oven-baked pizzas. It was essential that this culinary craft be visually legible to the customer. We achieved this through a large open kitchen window, an exposed shipping container beer cellar — complete with glazed panels to showcase the operation — and even visible pipework tracing the route from cellar to counter pumps. Every element reinforces the connection between production and experience, transparency and craft.
